Braces for adults

Everybody wants to look their best. At many times, your appearance can influence strangers around you as well. In a study out of 1000 Americans, people with great smiles were viewed as financially more stable, happy, healthy, and more intelligent. In other words, having a great smile makes an immediate impact on how others perceive you before they even have begun to know you. Crooked or crowded teeth are not just for children anymore, and with advances in technology, have much shorter treatment lengths than decades ago. It's slowly becoming more accepted in today's culture as more adults see how the benefits outweigh the temporary inconvenience in their life. Dr.Do is fully educated in how braces can benefit you through numerous continuing education and rigorous testing. She is a Fellow of the International Association For Orthodontics and an accredited member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.

Modern orthodontics and obstructed airways

There is a fascinating book available called "Jaws: The Story of a Hidden Epidemic" by Sandra Kahn and Paul R. Ehrlich. It discusses how correcting crowded teeth has a correlation with obstructing airways. An obstructed airway leads to Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome, which is slowly becoming a leading contributor of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and many other systemic problems.

Solutions for missing teeth

Whether you have lost a tooth due to trauma or disease, we have numerous ways to replace it. Ideal treatment would be a dental implant, which would restore the tooth or teeth to be as strong as the original tooth. A fixed bridge would be another good alternative for replacement and still maintain the sensation of having a real tooth. A cosmetic dentist may prefer either depending on the condition of the area where the tooth is missing.

American Dental Association annual meeting

It's a little late, but Dr.Do and Dr. Choy had a terrific annual meeting at the Honolulu Convention Center which happens roughly every ten years. They attended classes ranging from cosmetic dentistry, orthodontics, and implant dentistry to keep up on the newest techniques. They also walked around the exhibit hall to try out the state-of-the-art equipment available to keep our dental practice on the cutting edge of technology.
